Do you wish you could bring your dog everywhere? I know I do. I have been looking for a great dog backpack for a long time. Rocket is as much a part of our family as anyone else. While I do my best to include him in most activities, some are just not practical – until today!
I'm so excited to tell you about the K9 Sport Sack AIR. The K9 Sport Sack AIR is a backpack made especially for dogs. I tried it out on Rocket, and I'm hooked!
I love taking Rocket hiking. More often than not, I end up hiking for WAY longer than I had initially planned. Sometimes Rocket will hit his limit, and I have to carry him. Even though he only weighs 12 pounds, my arms are exhausted by the time I get home.
We tried this bag on a snowy trail. Rocket doesn't enjoy walking in the snow, but he loved being a first-class passenger in his dog backpack! I even stuffed the bag with a blanket to keep him nice and toasty.
Features I love:
Fully ventilated mesh sides
Adjustable pockets
Thick, padded bottom to keep your pup comfy
Adjustable straps galore to hold them in place
Veterinarian approved
Although we haven't tried it yet, people go bike riding, motorcycling, and shopping with their dogs on their backs. I love going to the local street fair in the summer but am always hesitant to bring Rocket because he is small. This bag will be perfect for outings like this.
” K9 Sport Sack was created by dog owners, for dogs and owners – to explore, travel, have fun, and grow closer all while being safe, comfortable and easy. We love what we do, and nothing makes us happier than seeing happy dogs and happy owners getting around in the K9 Sport Sack. “

If you have a larger dog, contact the company to help you with sizing. I have seen photos of medium-sized dogs in the sport sacks but they don't list the weight limits of these bags on their website. It is all measured by the length of your dog.
Rocket measures 17″ from collar to bottom. He is right in between a Small and Medium size so I went with the Medium. It's good because there is a ton of room to fit his blanket. Additionally, you can purchase a booster block to add 3 inches if your dog is between sizes. I did need to get the booster block for Rocket because the Medium is a little too long for him.
The bag doesn't have much room for any major hiking or camping gear. It will fit your water bottle, wallet, cell phone, keys, snack, etc. The pockets are adjustable and close easily with the elastic drawstring. If you go on a longer hike, you'll either really need to consolidate or have someone else carry the hiking pack. It is big enough to carry the essentials though – your dog!
Dachshund Owners – And Long Back Breeds
Since our dachshunds are prone to back problems, keeping them protected is a top priority. I took the bag to Rockets Veterinarian and asked for her professional opinion in regards to dachshunds using this bag.
She thought that the bag is fine for dachshunds to use and provides enough support. She recommends placing them in the bag for a short amount of time at first and working up from there. When they come out of the bag, check if your pup seems wobbly or stiff. She also suggested that while she does recommend the bag, they shouldn't stay in it for a long period of time.
As I mentioned earlier, I did use a small blanket to keep Rocket warm. I also felt that the blanket added additional support to keep him from moving around too much.
This dog backpack is perfect for anyone wanting to spend more time with their pup. Whether you want to go for a bike ride, hit the trail, or do some Saturday shopping, you can rest assured that your dog will be safe, comfortable and have a great time hanging out with you.
As a dachshund owner I would be worried that this does not support their back enough as it appears from the pictures Rocket is sitting horizontally. Did Rocket find it comfortable? I would love to be able to take mine out for much longer walks without having to carry him in my arms – as you say, they get heavy!
Hi, Amy. I completely understand your concern. Part of the reason I put the blanket in the bag with Rocket was to provide extra support for him. As I mentioned in the article, I ordered the medium size and there is a bit of extra room. I wrapped him in the blanket and put him in the bag which I believe provided extra support. Rocket seemed very content and wasn’t fidgeting at all. My guess is it’s OK because even though he is sitting up, his bottom is still supported. There are holes in the bag for their front paws which add a little more support as well. I actually have an appointment with the vet tomorrow for a teeth cleaning for Rocket so I will ask her thoughts on this and get back to you!
Ah I see! I wasn’t sure if the blankets were mainly for extra warm but I can see that with the extra space you could bolster him. If the vet does make any recommendations I would be really interested in their feedback, thank you so much for coming back to me 🙂
Hi Amy! I spoke with my vet today and she thinks the bag is perfectly fine for dachshunds. I brought the bag with me and she looked at it. She suggested not to leave them in there for a long period of time as it could make them a little sore. She felt that the bag does provide enough support – the added blanket definitely helps with support as well. She recommends starting by putting them in for a short period of time and working up to being in there longer. When they are taken out of the bag, let them walk around and see if they seem wobbly or stiff. Rocket seems totally fine with his and he has been in it about 4 times now. I think I will add a section about this to the article. Hope this helps!
Thank you so much Elizabeth, I will be definitely looking into one for my little man!
Thanks for published nice article .please carry on it:)
