Buying a dog shirt at the pet store can be expensive. You can easily reuse an old baby onesie or buy one at the thrift store for a fraction of the cost and achieve the same adorable results. This simple DIY doesn't require any sewing and takes less than 5 minutes.
Step-By-Step Instructions
My dachshund, Rocket is about 12 pounds. I used a size 6-9 month onesie.
That's it! In under 5 minutes, you will have a brand new outfit for your dog. Time to get your camera out and snap some pics!

I use this trick for my Yorkies all the time! Instead of hot glue I use iron in seam tape. It’s machine washable and holds up great!
Thank you. I want to try your tape idea.
What size do you use for your yorkies and how much do they weigh? I’m not certain to buy premie size or bigger.
I used premie on my baby papillon. Now use newborn. She weighs 4 pounds.
If the shirt is cotton knit you don’t even need to hem it. It will slightly curl but won’t fray after you cut. Save yourself a step! Great idea to use the baby shirt.
I do this all the time with baby shirts but I crochet an edging around the bottom to keep it looking great & also crochet around the neckline till it is just right to fit over the dogs ( or cats) head..
Can you post a picture with the crocheted edge please?
What size tshirt to buy for my 25 lb. Dachshund? Sle looks like your dog shown in blue although she is a chiweenie. She was the runt of the litter and born with a deformed front leg so we we are looking for tsirts that are easy to put on.
Length is about 23″ and girth 17″. We have coats with velcro but looking for thsirts or two-legged pajamas with big head opening.
This is a great idea.
Thank you for any suggestions.
