Just as it is important to be aware of what we feed our dogs, it's important to be aware of what we put on their skin. I love this recipe for Soothing Homemade Dog Shampoo because it is simple and free of any toxic ingredients.
This shampoo has only three ingredients. Liquid Castile soap, fractionated coconut oil, and water.
I used Castile soap because it is all natural and vegetable based. Make sure when buying, look for pure Castile (such as this brand) to ensure it's free from added chemical detergents. There are many brands of Castile soap and not all of them are good as they contain fragrance and chemicals.
This recipe also calls for fractionated coconut oil. Fractionated coconut oil has had some of its fatty acids removed. This causes the oil to remain in a liquid state. Again, it's important to research a quality product. Here is a list of high quality Fractionated Coconut Oils.

I bathe my dachshund, Rocket about once a month. During the summer when he is rolling in the grass, I bathe him more often, about once every two weeks. This shampoo is gentle enough to be used frequently yet powerful enough to remove the stink!
As a bonus, you can also use this shampoo on your skin and hair.
I hope you and your pup enjoy this recipe for Soothing Homemade Dog Shampoo!
